Based in Bristol, Edenvale Young is a Civil Engineering and Scientific Consultancy specialising in the fluvial, coastal and maritime environment with colleagues working in the office or at home and abroad.
With a maximum speed of just 8 megabits per second (Mbps), colleagues working remotely through their virtual private network (VPN) had to upload data overnight. Large files for their hydraulic modelling were taken home to send on faster domestic lines and their system back-ups were done by downloading everything onto a hard drive to store off-site once a week.
With the help of HNS, a local broadband supplier and a gigabit voucher they were able to upgrade their connectivity to 1,000 Mbps or 1 gigabit per second.
Edenvale Young Director Dr Gerald Morgan explained the difference it made: “Since the gigabit-capable connection has been installed there has been a great step-change in our business. Our VPN is accessible day and night from across the world, system back-ups take place every day and we can even look at data cloud storage.”
